The Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) resubmitted its application to the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) for a commercial banking license in November 2013, and the BOJ granted it in February 2015. The Society, the third-largest financial institution in the nation at the time, started the process to restructure the JN Group and turn the building society into a commercial bank.

The 142-year-old Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) underwent a restructuring on February 1 2017 and was replaced by The Jamaica National Group. The third-largest commercial bank in Jamaica, JN Bank, was formed from the Society’s deposit-taking division.

To meet compliance with the new Banking Services Act, the JN Group has undergone a restructuring. The JN Financial Group, a financial holding company that will own the new JN Bank and all other JN Group firms that provide financial services, was created as part of the reorganization of the JN Group.
